3 more days left in my calendar until my birthday! sheesh - i'm older again. old to be wiser again. but is there something to celebrate really?
people around the world celebrate birthdays with cakes and candles, presents and birthday cards which became popular to mostly children. i still remember, i was five, mom used to order a brown sugar coated cake with lots of icing around it then we celebrate it with the family asking me to say my "wishes" aloud. i mean, sure. so i asked for toys.
i've been thinking, is there really a wish that come true or it's just because that bday cakes has to go with a number of candles and then just blow it? it didn't really occured to me until i was about ten then figured that our parents taught us that it is their obligation to commemorate their siblings' special day.
it's like a yearly rituals that reinforce a strong sense of shared values. and birthdays offer that opportunity in our family. i think birthdays have become more important as they are a celebration of relationships. so it is always so important to me that whenever my birthday is coming, i'm expecting a hug from my loved ones. and as i grow older, my birthday usually focus on the family, friendships, good memories and meaning in life rather than just partying or celebrating focusing on material possessions.
nowadays its a trend. we give parties, we tell and inform everyone that there's food to celebrate. it goes on and on until you become older, you realized, demm it's starting to get expensive. but i'm just being specific. birthday cards is nice including a personal message in it. those thoughts and feelings that sometimes not said all year, are the plains and easy to say on someone's birthday - a unique moment to share really.
yet, i still have 3 days left to make a plan. i want this to celebrate along with my nephews. i want it a k.i.d.s. kind of birthday. but i want my cake a slice of cheesecake with one candle in it. it would look cheap but it's cute. in addition, here's my checklist:
- buy extra films or video recording tape
- check batteries for the cameras and video recorder
- get an exact guest count. call those who are taking days off
- call only those who remembered my birthday
- arrange to have balloons filled with helium to pick up the day of the party. i think its fun to have each guests go home with a balloon. ya think?
but for now, i want to thank those who sent me SMS greetings. soy, bob & tobit, thank you for the nice SMS. john, thank you for calling. oliver, thanks for the long distance call. karen, thank you for the email greetings. lizz, thank you also for the email. and to those who haven't greeted me yet, my birthday will not be over until i hear 'em from you. so go on GREET me!
my greetings also goes to my two lovely sisters who are also celebrating their birthdays on the same day. and happy wedding anniversay to my parents, on the day after.
ok, i'm out.
