jazz me up

chris botti a not a show-off-y trumpeter reminds me of my late beloved father. i grew up with him from his strict manner to the way he 'blows his trumpet' during early mornings. as a teen, i would say, i'd really listened to his particular piece of current air coming from his lungs out of his trumpet. along with his younger brother who mastered playing a tenor sax, their early years were such a rollercoaster ride. they jammed from dusk-till-dawn in an all-band bar around manila bay along roxas boulevard until they formed a band then flew to japan. that was during the seventees.

people from our province called him, maestro. i still remember, he retired few years before he died of diabetes, teaches young school children to learn music, for free. somehow, my love of jazz creates a wonderful feeling that everytime i hear a jazz trumpeter, i instantly become interested listening to them, and that reminds me of him. all of his jazz collections of vintage vynil are still kept in a nice box under my pc table, from dizzy gillespie, miles davies to quincy jones and other extraordinary trumpet talents. perhaps, if i were to indulge into these collections, the more you probably listened to it, the more it reveals influential to play over and over again.

as for chris botti, he blows out absolutely great. i'm now a huge fan of this amazing trumpet player. he's got rendition of old songs featuring few nice vocalists, often seduces me by the melody of the songs. he plays the trumpet in the style of chet baker who turned into a drugged-out jazz icon, however botti is better than the typical smooth jazz radio you listen, though, his melodic intelligence and the use of real musicians, not machines, makes his music warm and organic. one of the nice tracks that i love to listen to is the lushy romantic, 'the look of love' from a marvelous vocals of chantal kreviazuk along with paula cole & shawn colvin.

it's a mood-setter and you will be paying some degree of attention whenever you hear his ohh-so-cool romantic sound if you are a jazz aficionados. go chill with chris botti.

hey g, if you want some more of chantal's let me know. i think i first heard chantal was from 'the mecha world' movie AI, a duet with josh groban's "for always".

garr, with WOO? are you serious? i don't find avril that good, can't compare alanis' rock-vocal style.

re: chantal. sad to see that people only know about her remake of "leaving on a jet plane". she's really got better songs in her repertoire :)

i like the apple background. yeah knoizki, Chantal Kreviazuk is a goddess, i cant believe she composed stuff for Avril Lavigne (considering how much i hate this entity)... but chantal is great. i especially dig her songs Surrounded, Green Apples, In This Life, and .. Feels Like Home could just make me lose my mind haha. yeah she's a soundtrack regular indeed :)
